Daniels: Dream Come True as Bucs' Starting QB

Published October 4, 2026 · Updated October 4, 2026 · NBC Sports

Undrafted rookie Jalon Daniels will make his NFL debut as the starting quarterback for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers today against the Packers, with Baker Mayfield sidelined.

During his college career at Kansas, Daniels was never viewed as a sure NFL prospect, let alone a rookie starter. However, after Mayfield's injury, the 0-3 Buccaneers have turned to the undrafted rookie who says it's 'a dream come true' to even be playing in the NFL.

Daniels has prepared like a starter throughout the season despite taking few practice reps with the first-string offense until last week. The Buccaneers desperately need a win, and if Daniels can deliver, it would be one of the most surprising stories of this NFL season. capturengo.com
