Mariners Place Speier on IL, Activate Suárez, Simpson

The injury-plagued Mariners continue to face roster challenges as they've placed lefty Gabe Speier on the 15-day IL due to left shoulder inflammation. Speier, 31, has struggled this season with career-high expected metrics despite decent surface numbers. To replace him, the Mariners activated LHP José Suárez, claimed off waivers from the Braves, and selected Josh Simpson from Triple-A Tacoma.
