Except for some OL bench press assessments on Monday, the 2026 NFL Scouting Combine is all but over. Oh no, the doldrums of the offseason are plaguing us once again! So, what exciting thing do the Broncos have next on the NFL calendar? The tag deadline.
The Broncos have until 2:00pm MT on Tuesday, March 3 to tag their franchise and transition tags. Unfortunately for the offseason honks out there, the two best candidates, John Franklin-Myers and JK Dobbins will likely go untagged by the Broncos. With Dobbins’ injury history and Franklin-Myers’ expected price tag, it doesn’t make football sense to do so.
It’s been a bit since Denver has tagged anyone not named Justin Simmons. Simmons was tagged in consecutive years, 2020 and 2021. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, it just means that the Broncos are being smart stewards of the cap space afforded to them by the league and that they are able to negotiate player extensions without having to us the “if all else fails” option.
So, for those of you planning franchise and transition tag parties at the deadline Tuesday, I salute your hardcore fandom! Maybe next year there will be something to report on this front… as the reigning Super Bowl champs, perhaps?
