Red Wings get brutal news on Tyler Myers trade pursuit with Canucks update

In the end, it appears Tyler Myers simply didn't want to play for the Detroit Red Wings.

It was reported days ago that the Red Wings had offered a second-round pick to the Vancouver Canucks for Myers, and it seemed the Canucks liked that offer.

But Myers has a no-move clause in his contract, and he evidently used it.

Instead, Myers will play for the Dallas Stars.

The Athletic's Pierre LeBrun reports that it's Myers going to Dallas for a second-round pick and a fourth-round pick, with Vancouver retaining 50% of Myers' salary.

The Stars will have Myers for the rest of this season and for next season.

The Red Wings will have to look elsewhere to find a right-shot defenseman.

There are three names that have come up broadly in recent days, although not necessarily linked to Detroit.

The Flyers are open to trading Rasmus Ristolainen, but his asking price is higher than the Canucks were asking for Myers, so that might price the Red Wings out.

The Blues have been said to be shopping Justin Faulk and Colton Parayko, who both fit the bill, as well. There's a chance Faulk's cost wouldn't be much more than Myers, but it's hard to say, and the salary is tougher to fit with Faulk than it would've been for Myers.

The Red Wings may have to settle for some kind of bargain option or pivot their attention to a different need.

They're a strong contender, but it has to sting a bit not to pull off a deal like this one simply because the player seemed to have said no.
