Andrea Pavan Discharged After Elevator Shaft Fall

Andrea Pavan has been discharged from a South African hospital after a freak elevator shaft fall that left him with multiple fractures and required shoulder and back surgery. He will stay in the country for about five weeks of rehabilitation before returning to the U.S.

The 36‑year‑old Italian golfer fell three stories into an elevator shaft in Stellenbosch, South Africa, during the DP World Tour’s Investec South African Open. He underwent surgeries on his shoulder and back and suffered fractures to several vertebrae. Pavan was discharged from the hospital on Wednesday and will remain in South Africa for roughly five weeks of rehabilitation.

Pavan thanked friends, family, sponsors and supporters on social media, noting the recovery feels like a miracle. A GoFundMe set up by a former Texas A&M teammate has raised over $81,000 to help cover his medical expenses.
