Mississippi House Exempts NIL Earnings from Tax

The Mississippi House has passed legislation to exempt college athletes' Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) earnings from taxation. The bill aims to support student-athlete compensation opportunities that emerged following NCAA rule changes in 2021.

The legislation now moves to the Mississippi Senate for consideration. If enacted, it would join other states in creating a favorable tax environment for college athletes earning through endorsements, sponsorships, and other business ventures related to their athletic prowess.
